Five poems for Valentine's Day

Reverie

when you’re away
you appear before my eyes
sit with me and hold my hand
without hesitation
words fly from our lips
and dance in the wind
like petals in spring
if this is a dream
may it never end
because fantasy
was never as lovely as this

The mortal love

talk of love gives pain
takes us back to the days
when we seldom said a word
yet understood all
it didn’t have to be spring
for flowers to bloom
silently we would create
music in the air
but dreams are mortal
they die slowly or suddenly
we are together but lonely today
struggling under bundles of memories
our desires itch to rip thru
this synthetic calm
we try to rephrase our feelings
until it starts to make sense
timidly, gingerly
together we recall the gift of love
that used to follow us everywhere
we talk about the love that was
as the time to part arrives
i touch her arm and say quietly
you must listen to the breeze
on starlit nights when I’m gone

the fulfillment

i kiss your lovely face
stranger moments ago
a bunch of lilies
dances with its own shadows
blush deepens on the cheeks
as i delve into your folds
unravelling mysteries
which are now
for my eyes only,
i can hear my heart
precious hours tick along
rose tinted
scented evening
melts into the night
while i just can't wake up
love and rapture
gifts to cherish

The symphony

the scent of flowers
teases our nostrils
petals play with our skins
as we reveal our emotions
slowly gently
roses sway on green grass
the passion is more than we can bear
as we stretch out
on the emerald bed
dotted with rubies
skies bend over the earth
drench us
birds choreograph a symphony
as our bodies twirl in tandem
heartbeats melodize a new rhythm

Quiet ecstasy

away from concrete harshness
of our college
in the boat
drifting amidst Sukhna[1]
we compose a poem
give love a new rhythm
even as flowers
drift by on the breeze
a robin flies
partly obscured by blue mist
makes laps around the lake
sinking and rising
our eyes meet
the sky turns pink

[1]Sukhna, the lake in Chandigarh, is absolutely divine where golden sunrise/sunset and the song of exotic birds conjure up a perfect setting for courting couples.
